University of Maryland Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium Renovation

Higher Education

Project Description: Plano-Coudon served as Construction Manager on the revitalization of the Natatorium, part of the University of Maryland’s indoor swimming complex at the Eppley Recreation Center. Through an overhaul of the original filtration system and extensive repairs and replacements, our team executed a transformative renovation encompassing an Olympic-sized competition swimming pool. The scope extended to tile enhancements and a white coat plaster finish, elevating the aesthetic appeal of the facility. Within the pump room, the center of pool operations, the work included removing and replacing the pool’s heaters, circulation pumps, filters, pool water piping, and the UV system. The upgrade also included replacing chemical controllers, valving, and hardware within the existing surge chambers, and installing a modern bulk-liquid system to replace the outdated chlorine system. Cognizant of the Natatorium’s pivotal role as a hub for the university’s club swimming and water polo teams, swimming lessons, and rentals, our team operated within a tight schedule to return the space to its users as soon as possible.
