At the former Calvert Distillery, Plano-Coudon renovated 70,000 SF in two existing buildings to create two custom brewhouses for Guinness Blonde and its small-batch products, packaging and warehousing facilities, and a visitor center that includes a tasting room, multiple bars, restaurant, event space, exhibit areas, gift shop and outdoor amenities on the 62-acre site. As the first Guinness facility constructed in America in 63 years, Open Gate was envisioned as a landmark property and a destination for Guinness fans. To achieve that vision, Plano-Coudon and its local project partners engaged in close collaboration with Diageo and its international branding, hospitality and architecture firms on this design-build project.
