Cecil Elementary School Phase 2 Schoolyard

Project Description: This project, for Parks & People, rehabilitated and enhanced the open space and recreational area adjacent to Cecil Elementary School in Baltimore City, creating a dynamic and inclusive environment for all ages to enjoy. The improvements include extensive hardscaping, landscaping, and new playground equipment. Additionally, the project features the installation of gym equipment, a walking track, and designated spots for seating and dining. An outdoor classroom with space for the garden club was incorporated into the plan, providing additional learning opportunities, and fostering hands-on educational experiences. An underground stormwater management system was installed and the work required complex soil remediation. The scope also encompassed site furnishings, site walls, and planting areas throughout the space, transforming the area into a vibrant, functional, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the surrounding community.
