WAYLINE, an all-inclusive coworking destination, focuses on helping people feel more comfortable in an office setting. The newly renovated lobby, located at 6721 Columbia Gateway Drive, received a fresh upgrade from Plano-Coudon. Construction began in August of 2020 and was completed in January 2021. WAYLINE offers the new standard for office hospitality, and with the new lobby, tenants gain access to various work and collaboration spaces, cold brew coffee, a Sweetgreen Outpost, a food truck alley, and a yoga lawn.
Plano-Coudon’s renovation of the existing building involved the total demolition of all first-floor spaces to install new MEP systems, high-end architectural millwork, and custom plant and lighting fixtures. The exterior was revamped with new hardscape, site furniture for outdoor meetings, and a 2-level pergola with bench seating.
P-C partnered with BCT Design Group to bring life to WAYLINE. Deborah Dietrich, Project Manager for BCT, notes that the team was inspired to create something different than what currently exists on the market. The goal was to “bring an expanded idea of wellness to this space.” The environment demonstrates the need to prioritize the mind, body, and spirit, especially in a workplace. This emphasis on wholeness was achieved through designing work focus areas, exposure to the outdoors, increased natural light, a juice bar and nutritional options, games, music, and gathering spaces.
The project incorporates sustainability practices and a biophilic design, which has both environmental and personal benefits. Plants and greenery are integrated throughout, encouraging improvement to indoor air quality, boosting mood, and promoting a connection to nature. Organic shapes and shade patterns are features of a natural influence within the space.
Corporate Office Properties Trust is the Owner of the project. Mark Wendell, Senior Manager of Design + Development, remarks, “COPT is very excited about the completion of WAYLINE. Plano-Coudon did a wonderful job of bringing our design vision to life. The space has been very well received by existing and potential tenants.”
